In Spanish, Primeros means “first” and the brand concept is to create a first-rate cigar that can be sold at such a reasonable price one might think it’s a second. Thus the name “Primeros” to emphasize that it’s definitely not a second! This line has captivated cigar lovers looking for a premium cigar that fits nicely into their budget for an enjoyable everyday smoke.
Costa Rican Primeros is the fourth installment in the Primeros portfolio. Rolled with a beautiful, dark Costa Rican maduro wrapper (thus the name) Costa Rican Primeros are the only maduro cigars in the line. Select Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers complement the sweet wrapper well. For the price, this medium-bodied cigar offers lots of complexity and rich, full flavors. Expect a smooth, slightly sweet smoke with notes of peat and spices, hints of honey and a moderate finish. Enjoy it with a smoky, single malt scotch or an oaky chardonnay.
The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world.
The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
