Daniel Marshall has been known for excellent craftsmanship for his incredibly high-end humidors since 1982. In fact, Daniel Marshall’s humidors have been sought after by celebrities, presidents, dignitaries, and even the British royal family, just to name a few. It was natural that he would soon move on to crafting cigars with the same excellence as his humidors. He soon teamed up with the legendary Manuel Quesada who is known for the highly rated Casa Magna. The Red Label in your shipment today is made with the same excellence and high standards as Daniel Marshall’s humidors and starts with a stunning five-year-old Nicaraguan Habano wrapper leaf. Inside is a Nicaraguan binder and a bold mix of Nicaraguan long fillers from the premier growing regions of Esteli and the Japala Valley. Once lit, expect a razor sharp burn with medium to full notes of an earthy core with hints of espresso, cocoa and light sweetness. With a rating of 92 from Cigar Aficionado and a 91 rating from Cigar Journal, we know you’re going to enjoy this smoke as much as we did. Our panel recommended The Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year or your favorite single malt to pair with this smoke.

The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world.

The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
