Until recently, Xikar was only known for their lifetime guaranteed high-end cigar accessories. Then, a few short years ago, Xikar started making the HC Series – its own premium cigar line that over the last few years has had numerous 90+ ratings! The band on the cigar features palm trees that are meant to represent the El Corojo farm in Cuba where the style of the tobacco used in this cigar was developed. Created using the talents of Jesus Fuego, the Xikar HC Series Red Corojo starts with a meaty blend of long-fillers from Nicaragua’s top 3 growing regions that is bound with a Nicaraguan binder and finished with a thick and oily Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper. From the first puff, this handmade will deliver spicy, smooth, and smoky flavors of cedar, leather, nuts, and black pepper. Medium to full in body, our panel recommended an aged rum, such as Bacoo 8-Year Rum, as a perfect accompaniment.
Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
