No less than six generations of tobacco cultivating experience went in to the development
of our next selection. Leon Jimines continues the legacy started in 1903 when Don Eduardo Leon Jimines founded La Aurora Cigars in the Cibao Valley on the outskirts of Santiago, Dominican Republic. We found the construction impeccable and the taste satisfying. Before lighting her up, take in the notes of candy-like sweetness coming off the light-tone natural Connecticut shade leaf wrapper. Expect an unassuming, elegant cigar that burns slow and even. The smoke volume is moderate, and seemed to go almost dormant between drags, though it stayed lit and burned solidly. Look for a very mild, almost creamy tobacco taste and a very smooth smoking experience. We picked up notes of woody chocolate as well as toasted caramel. Note the solid, very white ash that hangs on and on– a sure indication of well-aged tobaccos. Overall this Robusto showcases properly balanced construction with a superior blend of milder Dominican tobaccos. It would pair up nicely with a medium-bodied malty ale, cognac, or blended scotch. The choice is yours!
