General Cigar has been delivering high-quality cigars since 1848, including such greats as Bolivar, Cifuentes, Cohiba, Partagas, Punch, and Macanudo, which is what you have received today. Macanudo is one of the top selling cigars in the world due to their consistently mild and pleasant character and exceptional construction. Macanudo is also a brand that doesn’t do gimmicks, ploys, stories, or anything with crazy marketing; they have stayed true to themselves and stick to crafting great cigars. The Macanudo Inspirado Red is not your typical Macanudo. Hailing from Nicaragua, this stick is one of the stronger, if not the strongest, in Macanudo’s profile, but boy is it tasty. The flavor bomb starts with a chocolatey Ecuadorian Habano wrapper which enrobes a Nicaraguan binder and a blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers, with the whole thing then boxed pressed to perfection. Delicious, complex, and medium to full in body, this smoke will lend flavors of dark fruit and red pepper with hints of cedar and leather. Accompany this smoke with a Woodford Reserve.
The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world.
The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
