The Partagas line was first developed in 1845 in Cuba, a history that suggests any Partagas cigar is going to be a great smoke. Long before Fidel Castro came into power in Cuba, Partagas cigars were hand crafted in Havana under the supervision of Ramón Cifuentes and his father. Ramón Cifuentes was one of the last of the legendary cigar-makers to leave Cuba. He did so in the early 1960s when he discovered Santiago, Dominican Republic and deemed it the ideal place to manufacture the line. Over the next several decades, Partagas streamlined its production, with General Cigar taking over production of the line in 1978 and bringing the non-Cuban tobacco to the American market.

While most of the Partagas cigars are created in the Dominican Republic, the Partagas Valle Verde in your shipment was handcrafted in Honduras. This complex blend starts with Nicaraguan Estelí Ligero, Nicaraguan Jalapa, and Mexican San Andrés fillers, followed by a Cameroon binder, and finishing with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, making this the first Partagas cigar to feature the San Andrés. Smooth and complex, this smoke will lend notes of earth, white pepper, bread, and hints of sweetness. Pair it with an Americano.

Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
