The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Maduro was created to celebrate the 20 years of the Perdomo Reserve line being on the market. CEO Nick Perdomo reinvented his classic Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne line with this new Maduro, as well as an equally satisfying Sun Grown sibling. Perdomo cigars have been receiving outstanding scores from Cigar Aficionado, Smoke Magazine, and Cigar Insider for years and this smoke is no different with a well-deserved 91-rating from Cigar Aficionado. Working from the inside out, this beauty features six-year aged Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long-fillers and binder and finished with a dark and oily six-year old Cuban-seed Nicaraguan wrapper that has been bourbon barrel-aged for an additional 14 months. The result are notes of dark cocoa and espresso with a natural sweetness that maduros are known for. Medium to full in body, this puro will pair perfectly with Glenfiddich 15 Year or your favorite scotch.
The Nicaraguan cigar industry originated when Cuban cigar makers escaped the revolution and re-established their livelihood in Nicaragua with Cuban-seed tobacco. Blessed with dark, rich soil, their new home was ideal for tobacco cultivation and Nicaragua quickly became known for cigars that rivaled Cuban quality. Unfortunately, revolution and war came to Nicaragua in the 1980s and devastated the industry, but it’s rebounded dramatically and is once again producing tobacco considered by many to be the finest in the world.
The Esteli Valley is in many ways the heart of Nicaraguan production and is known for its very powerful and spicy tobacco. The Jalapa Valley produces arguably the finest tobacco in the country: somewhat sweeter and less intense than Esteli, but extremely complex. The tobacco of the Condega Valley is often described as a blend of the other two regions.
