Alec Bradley took five years to create the Mundial as the timing was never just right, but it was worth it. Meaning ‘world’ in Spanish, the Mundial was launched at the 2013 IPCPR (International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association) Trade Show and Alec Bradley took the word launch seriously. Right before the trade show, they launched the cigars literally into the stratosphere! You can watch the video of the launch on their YouTube page (https://goo.gl/SNbtIK) and according them: “…we decided that we wanted to do it in a way no one had ever seen before. On July 13, 2013 we sent the Mundial series of cigars into space from the 59th floor of the Palms Place Casino. Having no idea where the cigars were going to land they were tracked via GPS into the desert for over 2 hours.” After retrieving them from the desert, those cigars were out on display at the Trade Show for the official launch to the public. Handmade in Honduras, this worldly cigar is a thing of beauty with a stunning chocolate brown wrapper from the Trojes region of Honduras. On the inside are two binders, one from Nicaragua and the other from Honduras that secure four different fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras with generous amount of ligero. Full-bodied, expect rich and meaty flavors of pepper and tobacco with a spicy leathery finish. The Mundial has also added to Alec Bradley’s impressive list of 90+ rated cigars with a 92 rating from Cigar Aficianado. Pair it with a bourbon.
Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
