For cigar aficionados, the Camacho brand is synonymous with “full”—as in full-bodied, full-flavored, and full of character. Their blends usually promise a powerful well-balanced smoke brimming with aromatic flavor, and the Corojo is no different. The Camacho Corojo comes from the rich soils of the Jamastran Valley of Honduras. Cuban cigar master Tino Argudin recognized that the soils of this region would be valuable for tobacco cultivation, proclaiming that "We will never find neither soil nor region as similar to Vuelta Abajo [a region in Cuba long renowned for its tobacco] as the Jamastran Valley in Honduras". Absolutely loaded with flavor, expect heaps of prominent, rich tobacco flavors, notes of aromatic cedar and a small kiss of cinnamon. You'll note a host of additional spices that contribute to this cigar's complex flavor profile, with a range running the gamut from slightly sweet to peaty leather and robust pepperiness. This cigar accomplishes what so few truly can, delivering a multitude of flavors that burst forth in perfect balance with one another. A KO champ of this magnitude calls for the best whiskey you can get your hands on, and of course, a chair to fall into when it delivers its one-two (three-four-five) combination of intense flavors.
Honduras has been a tobacco growing and cigar manufacturing area for hundreds of years, but it was the Communist revolution in Cuba that really put Honduras on the map. In the 1960s, many Cuban cigar makers fled their homeland and arrived in Honduras to re-establish their way of life. The immigrants took advantage of the climate, soil, and geography, which were well-suited to tobacco growing, and began producing high quality cigars. The center of the Honduran cigar industry is the city of Danli and the nearby Jamastran Valley. The majority of the world’s pure Corojo tobacco is grown here, now that Cuba has stopped production of this iconic, spicy, and rich variety in favor of Corojo hybrids. Other important areas of Honduran cigar production include the Talanga Valley, Copan, and Trojes.
